BE SMART

Make no mistake, going to a federal
prison, state prison, or federal prison camp for the first time will be
difficult. First time inmates usually have problems with the prison staff
and other inmates because they don't know anything about prison life.
They make mistakes because they just don't know what to do. They are not
prepared. If you will soon be heading to a prison or prison camp it would
be in your best interest to learn as much as possible about being an inmate
before you get there. Once you walk through that gate you enter a world
that has its own set of rules that you will have to live by.
1. What will the other inmates think of
me?
2. Will I be assaulted?
3. Will I be extorted?
4. Will I be strip searched?
5. Will I be given a body cavity
search?
6. What will a normal day be like?
7. How will I pass the time?
8. Can I exercise?
9. What will I eat?
10. Will I be locked in a cell?
11. What will the sleeping arrangements
be like?
12. Will I have to shower in front of
other men?
13. Will I have to go to the bathroom in
front of other men?
14. Can I bring anything with me?
15. Where will I be sent to prison?
16. What about my medications?
17. Will I be locked up with murderers
and rapists?
18. What if I get sick?
19. Will everyone know the details of my
crime?
20. What will happen to my business?
21. How soon and how often can I have
visitors?
22. What will the prison look like?
23. Who will I eat with in the chow
hall?
24. What about gangs?
25. Will I need money in prison? How
much?
26. Will I be forced to work? What kind
of job will I get?
27. Can I use the bathroom at any time
day or night?
